Boeing 747SP Passenger Jet Plane

The Boeing 747SP (Special Performance) is a shortened version of the Boeing 747 wide-body airliner, designed for longer range and higher altitude capabilities. It features a 47-foot shorter fuselage compared to the 747-100, with a taller tail and horizontal stabilizer. The 747SP can accommodate up to 313 passengers in a partial double-deck configuration and has a service ceiling of 45,100 feet, making it the highest flying subsonic passenger airliner. Developed in response to a Pan Am request for an aircraft capable of flying nonstop from New York to Tehran, the 747SP was Boeing's answer to compete with the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. Despite limited commercial success, the 747SP contributed to advancements in the 747 brand and found unique applications beyond passenger flights.
